Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
